How to Download the Audio (mp3) Files
See Warning 2 (below) if the audio loops.
If this is new for you or you're not a tech geek, please watch the video after you've read the following:
The digital downloads (which is what an mp3 is called) should work on all computers/tablets, both PC and Apple. It is similar to a pdf file which is a written document. Or mp4 which is a video file.
Depending on which web browser you are using, there is usually a way to download a file. Some browsers will have an icon with an arrow pointing down to denote to begin the download process.
But that is the beginning of the process. Once the file gets uploaded. Which means you can see it in the browser. That does not mean you have saved it.
You have to save the file to whatever folder or place you want.
Then you can open the file which usually means that an app or application will open it and play it. Thus you have the ability to stop, start, rewind, etc.
And that app or application will store the files (ie the classes) so you can go straight to there without having to login each time.
If you are in our longer programs or courses. Please make sure you download all of your materials. When you get new access. Just rinse and repeat the above process.
WEB BROWSERS
(The info below can change as the internet changes)
There are many web browsers available. Your device usually has one pre-installed. So use it or try others as speed may vary.
Chrome and Firefox are fairly similar. I used to say Chrome was my primary option but speeds have slowed down. But I hear they are working on it. So, be open to trying and using the one that works best for you.
If you use Safari, you can now option + click -- or option + return key and it will take the audio file to your download folder or folder you've specified to download files.
Windows users can use Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer (which is being replaced). And or any browser of choice.
Normally, you're music software, like iTunes or Windows Media Player should be able to open the file, after it has fully downloaded. That is where your audio files will be stored for replay. Unless of course you use a different media playing software, ie app or application.
Warning: Depending on how fast your internet connection, you may have to wait for the file to completely download before it is ready.
When you attempt to save the file so you can have it on your computer - you may notice that the save window may not show up because the file is loading. This is like a Youtube video or Netflix movie which buffers - that is - it is loading in.
Each web browser may show a different audio icon.
These audio files can be large at times, so just a wait a bit and it will load in.
Warning 2: If you decide to play the audio in the web browser, (which means you have not downloaded, you've only uploaded it to the browser) the audio can get hung up while it is loading in.
That means you may experience the file looping back to where it started. That lets you know you have not downloaded the file to an application or app or audio player which can store and open the classes.
So, it's easier to download the file and then save it to your device so you can access it (with the appropriate app, application or software) more quickly for the future.
Tablets/ iPads/Smart phones can do it too, but may require additional apps for you to download and replay without logging in.
There are any number of apps both free and paid versions so you may have to search the app store, google play or ask a teenager or the store where you got your device and follow what they recommend.
On my iPad, My Media is essentially a web browser. You can use this app to login and download the audios.
My new favorite download app called Documents by Readdle is also a browser which seems slower yet I like the interface and seems easier to understand and organize.
On my Android phone, the audio goes to: My Files.
But... phones will fill up fast if that is where you plan on storing them. So you may want to either increase the phone's memory. Or store them say in a Dropbox or other account where you can access them.
And yes. You will be able to transfer your saved classes to other devices. Just google - "how do I transfer audio files from 'device x' to 'device y'.
When in doubt, ask google, youtube or a teenager... and make sure they take the eon of their time to show you what they just did in nanoseconds. ; )
The video below will show you how to download the audio recording using Chrome and Firefox. It will work in a similar manner with other web browsers like Windows and Safari.
Newbies: Please be patient the first time or so. Once you get the hang of it, then it'll be second nature to press, wait, save file. Find it. And then play it on your device to your heart's content!
